squareCurriculum Vitae

Head of institute
Since September 2020, I work as elected head of the Institute of Manufacturing Technology and Quality Management at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Information about the activities of the institute can be found on its website.

University professor
Since September 2019 I am head of the Chair of Manufacturing Technology with Focus Machining at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Information about my research and teaching activities can be found on the website of the chair.

Chief engineer
From January 2016 to August 2019 I worked as Chief engineer for research at the Professorship for Micromanufacturing Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology. My teaching and research activities focused, among other things, on micro and precision manufacturing with cutting, ablating and forming technologies as well as on the functional design and evaluation of microstructured surfaces.

Habilitation
From mid 2012 to end of 2015 I habilitated based on my scientific work at the Professorship for Micromanufacturing Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology. On September 29th, 2015, I defended my habilitation thesis. The thesis was published by Verlag Wissenschaftliche Scripten with the ISBN 978-3-95735-028-2. Based on my habilitation, I was awarded the title of Privatdozent by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology.

Group leader
From mid-2008 to January 2016, I set up and headed the teaching and research group Ablating Processes and Microstructure Technology at the Professorship for Micromanufacturing Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology. Research areas were in particular ECM processes for the force-free microstructuring of materials that are difficult to machine. The focus of my research work was jet electrochemical machining (abbr. Jet-ECM) and the simulation of the removal process with the help of the FEM software COMSOL Multiphysics™. The research works were continued since January 2016 under the direction of two of my former students in the teaching and research groups Ablating Technologies and Manufacturing Equipment as well as Surface Design and Multiphysics Simulation.

Doctorate in engineering
From the beginning of 2006 to mid-2009, I did my doctorate based on my scientific work at the Professorship for Micromanufacturing Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology. I defended my dissertation on November 25th, 2009, with the overall grade magna cum laude. The thesis was published by Verlag Wissenschaftliche Scripten with ISBN 978-3-937524-95-5.

Research associate
From January 2005 to August 2019 I worked as research associate at Chemnitz University of Technology.

Studies
From October 1999 to December 2004 I studied physics at Chemnitz University of Technology. From December 2002 to November 2003 I was elected member of the student council of the Institute for Physics.

Diploma
I did my diploma thesis at the Professorship for Physics of Thin Layers. The topic was atomic structure and specific electric resistance of amorphous layers of binary (Au,Sb)/In alloys.

Research internship
I did my research internship with the topic UHV-STM investigation of palladium phthalocyanine on graphite (0001) at the Professorship for Analysis of Solid Surfaces.

Civilian service
From August 1998 to September 1999 I did my civilian service in the stationary surgery center of the Klinikum Chemnitz gGmbH.

High-school diploma
From 1992 to 1998 I attended the Gottfried-Leibniz-Gymnasium in Chemnitz. I chose mathematics and physics as advanced courses.
